Research Seminar - 8 August

On Wednesday 8 August Dr Cris Ryan, Queen’s University Belfast, will be giving a seminar on ‘STOPPing and STARTing in the elderly, what are the issues?

Prescribing for, and pharmaceutical care of older people is challenging, given their increased susceptibility to medication related problems. Screening tools containing explicit prescribing indicators may be useful guides when managing older patients’ pharmacotherapy. One such European based screening tool STOPP/START, has the potential to improve medication appropriateness, reduce the occurrence of adverse drug events and may also have substantial economic benefits when used routinely. This presentation will detail how STOPP/START was formulated and the evidence to date to support its use in every day clinical practice.

Room 713, Adams Building at 1pm. Everyone is welcome.
